clothes are the new loin-cloth

I know I know, its quite stereotypical of me to actually like fashion, but I do. I enjoy wearing things that make me look good and in turn make me feel good. I enjoy playing things up and trying new combination, I enjoy watching people and the way the dress. It provides information as to how they see themselves or how they want society to see them, its quite a regular exercise of mine.

anyhow..i am not in the mood to rant about the obvious lack of style that some people have...but I'm sure there will be a post about that soon. And I don't pretend that I am the do all and end all of the fashionable society in Malta, but I do try. And I am a mere observer of this world.

So, as far as I can see there are three types of people:
1. people who care
2. people who don't care
3. people who lie somewhere in between.

Now for the people who actually do care about their image, some get it right and some get it terribly wrong. Body shape issues and price ranges aside I do think its possible to dress onself properly without the major price tag and still respecting their body shape. I agree that no one likes free fashion advice, I know I would get offended if someone came up to me and gave me "FFA" but there are things such as guidelines that one should follow to achieve the most flattering look possible.

A few websites that I follow for basic advice include:
http://www.gq.com/style - basically the man's bible, its got a lot of everything, and some really easy to follow up to the season trends
http://mensfashion.about.com/ - the ultra basic but very informative site about what colours go together and when to wear what....simple and easy to use.
http://www.askmen.com/fashion/ - another pretty much all round the park kind of website with cars and gadgets and all the shiny stuff guys like to look at, with a very good section on fashion.

For those of you with more adventurous tastes, I suggest you check out the runway shows and take note of what you like and don't and try them out. Possibly even following blogs such as Jak and Jil, The Fashionisto,  and The sartorialist which are big on the fashion scene.

One little disclaimer....not all looks are good looks, and not all looks will look good on everyone - unfortunately.

To those that don't care and have gotten this far - maybe you actually do care, or maybe you are bored and had nothing else to read? Yet another possibility.

For those that are in the third category of people: stick to basics and classics while accenting and modernizing the look with a few now-pieces. Make a style your own by adding pieces that appeal to you - Have fun with it :)
